Tips to Keep Your Skin Glowing in Winter

My skin has less moisture in winter. Help!

Due to the drop in temperature and lack of humidity, our skin can have a difficult time retaining moisture, leading to itchy, dry skin and cracked lips. Here are 5 tips to help keep your skin moisturized and healthy during the colder months.

  1. Stay hydrated and incorporate healthy fats into your diet. Add electrolyte powders to your water or choose hydrating options like coconut water and herbal teas. Definitely increase your intake if you are also consuming beverages like alcohol or coffee. Make sure to consume healthy fats on a regular basis. This could be adding some avocado or walnuts to your salad, putting some coconut oil in your smoothie, or taking an essential fatty acid supplement like our DMK EFAs.

  2. Consider using a humidifier in your home. The ideal humidity level is between 30% and 50%. When purchasing a humidifier, also consider buying a hygrometer. It is similar to a thermometer, but measures the humidity level, rather than temperature. For an added bonus, add a few drops of a relaxing essential oil like lavender or chamomile…sweet dreams!

  3. Use skincare products that contain humectants. Humectants attract and retain water molecules from the air or from deeper within the skin. Our Peptide Moisturizer is great for acne prone skin and contains humectants like glycerin and sodium hyaluronate to help hydrate skin. For more acne safe moisturization you can add Hydrating Fluid, Silk or Chaga to your Peptide Moisturizer. If acne isn’t a concern, one of our moisturizing creams could be a great fit! We have several options depending on your hydration needs. Lastly, if aging is a concern, Firm might be perfect for you. It contains hydrating glycerin and sodium hyaluronate, while also targeting lines and wrinkles with other key ingredients.

  4. Avoid long, hot showers - We know this is tempting when it is cold outside, but trust us, this is very drying to your skin! Keep showers shorter in length and use lukewarm water. Always pat skin dry and seal in moisture with a hydrating body oil mixed with your body moisturizer.

  5. Don’t forget your lips! First, exfoliate with a sugar scrub. Make an easy DIY scrub with olive oil, honey and sugar. Second, apply our amazing Hydro Balm lip treatment. Pro tip - After applying your eye cream, use any remaining product on the border of your lips. The thin skin around your lips is similar to the delicate skin around your eyes.
